$260 for HQPlayer, $700 for Roon, $1000+ for a computer to run it plus whatever additional it costs for a suitable GPU, plus a Roon endpoint that supports HQPlayer (like the iFi Zen Stream). HQPlayer ain't cheap when you add up all that ends up being necessary to get it to work. Roon simplifies that BS which would make Roon worth it to me, even though it is $700 software. Just getting HQPlayer to work at a basic level already pushes the boundaries of the level of BS I'm willing to put up with to get music playback to work. I don't want to have to deal with software/hardware issues that can, and will, break and prevent me from playing music. If one thing breaks or changes then I can't play my music.
JRIVER & HQPLAYER INTEGRATION SOFTWARE
Yikes! $1900 just to play with that software component.Īnother factor is that I really dislike complex software/hardware environments to get audio to work. They just throw a Merging+ Anibus that's $1900 on the network and consider that success. It requires that some Merging Technoligies gear be on the network to use the software that makes that possible. Roon is a connecting, streaming and music management software that brings multi-room smarts to your hi-fi equipment Personalized Music Recommendations Effortless Library Organization Your music in a central place - Sign up for a free 14-day trial.
JRIVER & HQPLAYER INTEGRATION SKIN
The Windows 8 Zune skin has that great gradient effect, but the menu items along the top disappear unless the cursor is over them. The depth, the impact seemed to be missing. Skins like this are much needed for programs like JRiver, where functionality is great, but default interface is pretty pukey. I just looked at the aduiophilestyle article. Roon sounded a little brighter and much thinner. Too different from the ways I've done things for 20 years. I tried Roon when it first came out and it's too much of a paradigm change from the other audio software I use. Click to expand.I use JRiver on Windows primarily.
